Focusing on missiological, qualitative research
ANC Research Training is an informal, mentored approach focusing on participants’ specific research interests in a series of themed modules. The style of learning is interactive, like a conversation, while sharing content about the research process.
The training is open to anyone interested in learning about qualitative research. It is not necessary to be a member of the Angelina Noble Centre. It is particularly suited to those doing research in Christian ministry, missiology, intercultural studies, World Christianity or practical theology.
The focus of the ANC is intercultural ministry and qualitative research. Qualitative research involves people, the contexts where people are found, and the things people produce. It focuses on the subjectivities of human experience that cannot be reduced to numbers or controlled through scientific experiments.
Costs for ANC training are on a sliding scale and are given below in Australian dollars.
Payment must be made before the training begins using either the Paypal donation link on the ANC website or by direct deposit to the ANC bank account.
All monies collected by the ANC are used to cover the minimal administrative costs of the ANC and for research grants. Teaching is done on a voluntary basis by ANC Mentors.
Mentored Research Experience
The Mentored Research Experience offers the opportunity for an individual, mentored, training experience in research. The mentee and mentor negotiate a learning contract in one or three-month blocks. The learning contract outlines the aim of the project, its expected length, frequency of meeting between mentor and mentee, and expectations of each.
Examples of what a Mentored Research Experience could be include:
- writing an article for publication based on experience and literature
- a guided reading project
- doing a qualitative research project from scratch without previous research training
- writing up a doctoral or masters research project for publication
- doing a postdoctoral research project from scratch
- NVivo training or coaching
Fees for a Mentored Research Experience are:
- 1 month experience
- ANC Mentor – Free
- ANC Associate Researchers – $50
- ANC Collaborative Partners – $60
- non-members – $75
- 3 month experience
- ANC Mentor – $40
- ANC Associate Researchers – $60
- ANC Collaborative Partners – $80
- non-members – $100
- 6 months or longer (per 3 month block)
- ANC Mentor – $50
- ANC Associate Researchers – $70
- ANC Collaborative Partners – $120
- non-members – $150
NOTE: NVivo training or coaching for ANC Doctoral Students is free.
Summary table of fees for Mentored Research Experience
| 1 month | 3 months | 6 months or more (per 3 month block) | |
| Mentor | Free | 40 | 50 |
| AR | 50 | 60 | 70 |
| CP | 60 | 80 | 120 |
| Non-members | 75 | 100 | 150 |
It is possible to have a Mentored Research Experience as a couple or a group of researchers. For this, the fees will be 75% of the combined individuals’ fees. E.g., if 3 Associate Researchers want to do a 6 month experience together, the fees will be: 75% of ($140×3) = $315
